A growing list of officially smartphone free schools
Nearly all schools have some kind of phone policy but only 11% have an "effective" policy, according to the Policy Exchange. The Smartphone Free Schools Rating system has developed a Gold, Silver and Bronze award system, where schools can self-certify to demonstrate excellence and share best practice. View the map below.

The Gold standard is a 'no phones on site' policy, where brick phones / basic phones may be allowed instead. Silver is also an effective policy, which includes pouch or locker systems which mean that smartphones are out of children's hands for the duration of the school day. Bronze schools have a 'never seen, used or heard' rule throughout the day. Find out more about the levels here.
Once registered, schools appear on the map and receive logos to demonstrate their official smartphone free status. They're also given a profile page that allows them to share more detail about their smartphone policies and share best practice.
